Engaging Participants

For over a decade, AFTEC’s From Page to Stage® programme has transformed our students from passive observers into active participants. Through pre-show workshops with professional actors, drama becomes a powerful tool that helps them see the world differently.

Integrated into our curriculum, the programme teaches students to view stories—and life itself—through multiple perspectives. The play transcends text, revealing emotions and conflicts, and helping students feel the characters’ experiences deeply. AFTEC explicitly shows students that no single interpretation of a play exists, thereby sharpening their critical thinking while watching live performances.

Recently, AFTEC’s adaptations of iconic Chinese stories have fostered students’ cultural understanding, shifting them from merely knowing to genuinely feeling and understanding Chinese culture.

To me, a creative future must be shaped by arts education—fostering critical thinking and cross-sector collaborations. I believe that creativity is rooted in the arts. Inspired by AFTEC, I hope my students can master these skills in the future.

AFTEC’s One Day in the Theatre provides an authentic experience of acting and backstage work in a single day, where participants collaborate with one another to stage an excerpt at the end of the workshop.

Unlike typical skill-based training, the main objective of the workshop is to offer participants a fresh experience that ignites curiosity and encourages questions and new discoveries. It is delightful to see participants leave with smiles on their faces. We hope they will continue their exploration in drama and the arts in the future!

The Vitruvian Bridge project by AFTEC truly resonated with my research philosophy on DNA, as we both believe that creativity shines brightest through collaboration across disciplines. Working alongside talented artists Dr Priscila Chu and Ms Margaret Chu for this exhibition was incredibly rewarding. Their ability to weave the wonders of DNA into arts beautifully demonstrated how diverse expertise can create new ways of sharing knowledge. This partnership inspired fresh ideas in my own research, making the experience truly fruitful.

It was especially heartening to see families and young children engaged and curious about the science behind DNA. Given the chance, I would gladly participate in such a meaningful collaboration again!

AFTEC’s programme is life-changing. Creative thinking tools like “See, Feel, Think, Wonder” expand my thinking pathways by promoting observation, attention to detail, and thinking from different perspectives. This allows me to handle challenges with agility and dexterity. These tools are much more than just learning skills, but rather a brand new way of thinking. 

I believe that in the future, creativity will no longer be exclusive to certain fields but will bloom vibrantly in every corner of society. Everyone will be able to discover their creative potential and make contributions through creative learning and the open attitude it cultivates. I envision classrooms that ignite students’ curiosity and imagination, where they tackle real-world problems with a creative mindset.

Creativity can be cultivated. The power of creativity lies not only in problem-solving but also in its ability to broaden our perspectives and invite new possibilities into the world. I am thrilled to be a part of this invigorated and bright creative future, and I can’t wait to infuse more creativity and promote change in the world.

AFTEC’s creative learning tools are very useful; they add fun to learning and help me be more attentive to details in daily life.

I imagine a creative future where there will be inventions like flying cars and water-walking shoes that help us live more conveniently.

The creative learning strategies introduced to students by AFTEC throughout the entire Land.Tao: Fung Shui Woods programme helped them think outside the rigid confines of standard education disciplines. All programme activities are designed to encourage students to work together and develop creative approaches to overcome challenges. At its core, the programme guided students in integrating approaches to local ecological questions, which not only enhanced their understanding of the immediate environment but also provided a framework for discovering their individual niches.
