Young Theatre Makers 2024

Young Theatre Makers is a bilingual drama programme designed for secondary school students to discover the art of storytelling through playscripts and performance. By blending arts education with critical thinking, the programme encourages students to explore themes that resonate with their own lives—growing up, identity, and the world around them.

At the heart of the programme is a curated collection of 14 original plays written by playwrights from Hong Kong and other cities across Asia and Europe. These scripts, available in both English and Chinese, are written specifically for young people and spark thoughtful dialogue and creativity. Through discussions, rehearsals, and performances, students discover how theatre helps us make sense of the world—and ourselves.

It helped build my confidence in performing. This programme boosted my interest in becoming an actor.

Student

The programme was well organised, well designed, and useful for students; it was different from the teaching at school. I gained a lot of experience from taking part in the programme as a teacher. The programme has positively affected the students, enhancing their knowledge, skills and understanding of acting as well as dramatic arts in general.

Teacher

The interaction between the students and the teachers was excellent. Drama teaching was not only about reading the lines but also about lighting and acting. They worked hard to prepare for the stage performance. Thank you so much for the wonderful teaching!
